Inspiration
It was during her College years that she was first exposed to Pilates, although she did not feel particularly inspired by its vision - It seemed like just a notch above a gym exercise class or a physical therapy session. Her disinterest was most likely because at the same time she was exposed to the teaching of a few amazing dancers who completely changed her perception of the use of the body. From them she learned about new ways of approaching movement that seemed revolutionary and that affected a lot of positive changes in her technique, her posture and gave her an overall sense of ease.
It was through the discovery of Alexander and Release Technique that she learned in her own body that less is more. By learning not to “try” so hard but to “allow”, not to “fight” against the body and treat it as separate from oneself, but to embody one’s own natural structure and in turn find ease of movement and a natural, healthy muscle tone.
It was years later, that she revisited Pilates and was able to appreciate the brilliancy of the spring-resistance equipment and the diverse possibilities for movement in its exercise repertory. She was able to recognize the great potential in using the Pilates method and equipment as a medium to teach all that she had previously learned, and believed in. |
