Universal Principles of Movement Studio

Gabriel Bobek
I have been practicing CranioSacral Therapy since 1995 and am a licensed NY State Massage Therapist with National Certification. My work is informed with many years in the healing arts, a premedical background and ongoing anatomical studies, as well as yoga, dance and chi-kung.

I've always been fascinated with biology, and my schooling includes pre-medical studies at SUNY Binghamton, where I was at the top of my class in Biology. I also studied piano and graduated in 1980 with an Honors Degree in Music Performance.

In Binghamton I began a dance career which continued when I moved to New York City, working with the innovative
Laziza Electrique Dance Company and Yienan Song's visionary Ancient of Days Dance Theatre.

I studied massage at the
Swedish Institute of New York passionately diving into the science of the human body and achieving perfect scores in Anatomy and Physiology.

Even the years of studying piano supported this by preparing my hands and fingers for the special sensitivity this work requires.

When I took my first CranioSacral course in 1995 with the Upledger Institute, I sensed I'd found my calling and the work I was meant to do.

I trace my lineage from Dr. John Upledger to my mentors Kenneth Frey and Anne Hammel, well known New York City  CranioSacral therapists. I'm now a regular teaching assistant for the first 4 levels of CranioSacral training and will be assisting Advanced levels in the near future.

A turning point occurred for me when I walked into Backbone and Wingspan and felt it’s special energy. I am inspired by Tim's vision for an enviroment in which bodywork and movement training support each other and where open dialogue and creative expression flourish.

Simply entering this space is inspiring, there’s a vibrancy here and a feeling of moving forward with something of great value.

As a CranioSacral Therapist I get tremendous satisfaction helping people feel better, helping them avoid surgery when possible, and often rehabilitating conditions deemed hopeless by other professionals.

The seemingly disparate elements of my background have come full circle, as dance continues to inform my CranioSacral work, enhanced by working regularly with Tim, as well as participating in Cathy's weekly mat class.

I've been a guide and witness facilitating my client's self-exploration and healing for over 10 years, and I consider our work together sacred.

My journey continues as I expand my studies to include Visceral Manipulation, Cranial Biodynamics and Lymph Drainage.  I attend and assist trainings 4-5 times a year, and meet regularly with colleagues to deepen my understanding of this miracle we call the human body.

CranioSacral  Therapy could be a vital step along your path, and it may be the beginning of some deep healing.  I would be pleased to meet you wherever you are in your process. If you have questions regarding my work I encourage you to call or e-mail me.
